In India, the elephant is considered sacred. Elephant – ‘Gaja’ in Sanskrit – means bearer of happiness. So in Hinduism, the elephant represents good luck, fortune and happiness.
In Buddhist legend, a white elephant appeared to the mother of Gautama Siddharta (later the Buddha) before He was born. The Elephant was the bearer of positive news and fortune.
